Topps Now!
The age of instant (or near instant) gratification is upon us. In 2016, Topps launched an innovative, and since copied by Panini and Leaf, online program that produced cards made to order based on the events of the previous day. The program was called Topps Now! and was, by all measures, wildly successful. Later in the season, they began to create made to order autographs, and in a stroke of genius, started including game used bases and game used relics, sometimes along with an autograph or two. These allowed people to remember a specific moment or milestone, along with a card and momento for that specific game.
I won't delve into some of the other intricacies of the program over the past year plus, such as the Topps Now! Platinum club, and some of the more recent "hopeful" pricing models, but I do think that the program was and continues to be fantastic. I have no affiliation with Topps, and am not a Topps Now! Platinum club member, but I do collect some of the cards. Blog readers will be familiar with my love of the Chicago Cubs, and it seems like destiny that the Cubs won the World Series the first year of the Topps Now! releases.
Some of these cards have reached modern legendary status, and people know the final one simply as "Bryzzo." I chuckle whenever the WGN announcers shout "Cubs win the World Series!" whenever Kris Bryant throws to Anthony Rizzo to make a force out. Enjoy.
