Good Ole Short Season A Baseball
The local team around where my family lives is the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. They are a short season single A team for the San Francisco Giants, and often get a lot of the big name prospects through there. Last season in 2018 they had Joey Bart, their top draft pick and one of the top catching prospects in the minors. They've had Giant greats such as Buster Posey and Tim Lincecum, my affectionately named Big Time Timmy Jim being one of the better more recent UW alumni and a personal favorite of mine.
We got season tickets right after arriving, and the organization is fantastic. It's really everything for the community that you could hope baseball would be, and we're lucky to have them here. After the last home game of the season, they auction off jerseys. We bid on a couple, and would have tried to win some, but they ended the auction early due to cold weather (!!?!). I guess they aren't used to the good ole freezing falls in the Midwest out here in Oregon. It wasn't that cold, and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt! We're eagerly looking forward to next season already!
