The Conundrum of Great Talent Without the Production Part 1
Here is a case of an immense talent, a young guy so skilled and physically gifted that he was the number one overall draft pick in all of baseball. And then he rocketed through the minors and got called up. The team wasn't all that great, but this player did well. He was the runaway winner of the rookie of the year award, and was out of the gates with a blazing start.
He started the second season looking every bit like a future hall of famer. He WAR was off the charts both offensively and defensively. He looked dangerous at the plate, and was anchoring the lineup. Teams were pitching around him. His career trajectory looked limitless.
Then the injuries started piling up.
