That Card You Always Wanted Part 3

There was always one final card from the 1990's that I really wanted but could never get.  Over the years, I have toyed with purchasing one.  The price has steadily risen, but I never could pull the trigger.  Finally, after meeting Ken Griffey Jr. at the 2020 Transcendent party, I pulled the trigger on the card.  I could no longer resist the temptation to have it in my permanent personal collection.

Legend has it that 1000 of the cards were made to be signed by each player, individually as well as a dual, with a total of 3000 signed total cards.  1000 single signed by each, 1000 signed by both.  It was released originally in Series 1 1994 Upper Deck, and some people claim that it was retail only.  It was also re-released as an insert sometime in the 2000's, likely in 2007.  But much of that information is hearsay or lost.  And many of the Griffey only autographs have been bought up and had the other autograph forged.

Nevertheless, the 1994 Ken Griffey Jr. & Mickey Mantle dual autograph remains one of the most iconic cards ever produced.  It's so iconic that Panini copied the design earlier this year when they created the Kobe Bryant and Zion Williamson dual autograph inserted into 2019-2020 NBA Hoops.  And with Kobe's untimely death and the possible ascendance of Zion...  That card may go down in history similar to this one.  Only time will tell.
