Older Sets with Game-Used Memorabilia and On-Card Autographs
I lament all the time about the old Topps Five Star football sets and the old Upper Deck sets with game-used memorabilia and on card autographs, but it's still possible to make these in this day and age. Topps does a very small subset every year, often called Reverence or something like that, which they stash in their gigantic print run flagship releases. These are often short numbered parallels with patches or game-used swatches or bats with on card autographs, and are freakin' awesome.
Well, Topps used to make similar sets that were just as good. And they were also stuck into the flagship run. In 2013, they had a 10 card set that was numbered to 5 called "The Greats". The cards are nearly impossible to find. The set also represents some of the cleanest game-used on-card autograph cards available. And Stan "The Man" Musial died while the set was being released. I doubt he has a lot of on-card autographs available from after this, and you can sadly see the decline in his proud signature in this set. I was recently able to pick a couple of these cards up, and you can bet that they'll stay in my personal collection for a long time.
